BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Commuters once again will have access to Interstate 65 north from Interstate 459 by Monday afternoon, according to a news release issued Friday by the Alabama Department of Transportation.

If weather permits, the work will be completed and the ramp will be reopened to traffic at noon, the release said.

The ramp, at Exit 250, was closed to allow crews to replace a barrier wall, improve drainage structures and rebuild the ramp itself.

Vehicles traveling both north and south on I-459 use the ramp to enter I-65 north. The ramp is used by as many as 26,000 drivers each day, ALDOT says.

The work is part of the $21 million, 2.34-mile project to upgrade the section of I-65 from I-459 to the U.S. 31 exit in Hoover and Vestavia Hills. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to the release.

Updates on the project are available online at www.progress65.com or by calling 866-888-0822
