Michigan driver’s licenses and state IDs are getting a slight makeover this week.

New green striping makes the cards look light green. And, Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said, the cards will have added security features to make them harder to tamper with or duplicate.

“The new licenses have the latest safeguards available to protect their integrity, further ensuring cardholders are who they say they are,” Johnson said Monday.

Among the changes, Michigan’s Great Seal will be visible on the front under black light, as will the cardholder’s photo and birth date on the back.

A tricolor bridge image on the cards will appear and disappear when viewed from different angles.

The word “Mich” will be perforated into the cards and visible when held up to a light. The back will get a new bar code.

Prices will stay $25 for original licenses, $18 at renewal. State IDs are $10.

Drivers under age 21 will still get a vertical-format license.

The new licenses and IDs will be phased in through 2015. They are valid for four years.

The licenses and ID cards were last redesigned in 2003.
