WENTZVILLE – The speed limit on a 1.5-mile
stretch of Highway Z south of Interstate 70 will soon be cut to 45
mph from 50 mph.

The Missouri Department of Transportation on Monday announced
the change following a recent evaluation of the route.

“This section of Wentzville has grown extensively,” said Jim
Gremaud, St. Charles County area engineer for MoDOT.

Gremaud said traffic has increased along the segment, between
I-70 and Perry Cate Boulevard, and even more is expected due to the
planned expansion of Interstate Drive and potential additional
entrances on Z.

Gremaud said MoDOT researched the issue after the city requested
a cut in the speed limit there. He said city officials wanted the
limit dropped even lower – to 40 or below.

The new 45 mph limit goes into effect after new signs are
installed and uncovered. Crews will begin that work next week.
